The latest development at Dockside Canada Water has just taken a step forward with Southwark Council’s validation of our proposals for a new Albion Footbridge. The planning application is currently being consulted on and we are hopeful for determination before the end of the year.

This stunning new walkway is much wider than the one it replaces, making it safer and easier for both pedestrians and cyclists to share as they navigate around Canada Dock.

Designed by architects Carter Gregson Gray, the bridge was conceived in detailed collaboration with a wide range of local stakeholders to answer a genuine need and create a valuable new amenity to serve the local community. It is designed to be sensitive to local wildlife and biodiversity and celebrate the history of the docks.

The new bridge will enhance local connectivity and also contribute to the creation of a truly inviting public realm, with a platform that allows users to stop and enjoy stunning views over Canada Dock and the wildlife haven of Albion Channel.

The Albion Footbridge is pivotal to Art Invest’s vision for Canada Water and is at the forefront of the masterplan, helping to create the exciting new character that will be delivered alongside the Eastern dock edge public realm. The bridge completes a cohesive set of improvements designed to encourage access to the waterfront amenities that will benefit all of the community. Albion Footbridge is specifically designed to create a calming environment by offering users a connection with the water and a place to enjoy a pause on the way to or from Canada Water station.

It also complements the quality of the wider public realm at Canada Water, which already includes the distinctive red ‘Rafter Walk’ boardwalk across the water, and underlines Art-Invest’s commitment to creating a distinctive and inviting environment on the dock side.
