This July, for the second year running, teams from across the real estate industry took to the River Thames for the Oarsome Challenge, an exciting 16-mile chase from Greenwich to Chiswick.
Art Invest Real Estate and London Youth Rowing are thrilled to announce that this year’s challenge will raise a minimum of £30,000 to support LYR’s Active Youth Southwark programme, which empowers young people through sport.
“It was fantastic to have so many people take part in the Oarsome Challenge this year, and to see how nervousness and self-doubt at the start line transformed into smiles of satisfaction at the finish line,” says AIRE’s Luka Vukotik. “It is that same journey of self-discovery and pushing boundaries to gain confidence that London Youth Rowing initiatives offer to young people from less privileged backgrounds.”
London Youth Rowing works in London and across the UK to support and inspire people from disadvantaged communities by getting them out onto the water. Its programmes, which teach participants valuable life skills through rowing, have been proven to boost physical and mental wellbeing, with outsized benefits for young people from ethnic minorities and lower socio-economic backgrounds. The funds raised at this year’s Oarsome Challenge will go towards getting more schools in Southwark, Dockside’s home borough, involved in LYR’s Active Youth programme.
